Deputy Manuel Velasco apologized to President Claudia Sheinbaum via social media, admitting that they did not notice when she passed by them in the Zócalo during a unity event.

Later, the coordinator of the Morena bench, Adán Augusto López, joined the apologies towards the president for the incident that occurred in the Zócalo square in Mexico City. He expressed: "President Claudia Sheinbaum, I offer you an apology. I am meeting with Senator Adán Augusto López and Deputy Ricardo Monreal. In the excitement of the moment, we never heard that you were already in the heart of the Homeland."

Ricardo Monreal also apologized to Sheinbaum, although he later deleted his message from social media. The legislator acknowledged that at the beginning of the event in the Zócalo, they did not notice that the president was passing by where they were, despite the enthusiasm of the event.

These events occurred after the approval of the anti-nepotism reform proposed by Sheinbaum in the Congress of the Union. The initiative aims to prohibit direct relatives of officials in office from running for the same position immediately, having to wait at least three years after the official's mandate has ended.

Sheinbaum had initially proposed that the reform come into effect for the 2027 elections, which the Senate modified to postpone it until 2030. In response, the national leader of Morena, Luisa María Alcalde, indicated that the party's statutes will be adjusted to respect the reform starting in 2027.

Regarding the episode in the Zócalo, where leaders of Morena and the PVEM momentarily turned their backs on Sheinbaum, it was described as a lapse in protocol by those involved. Upon realizing the presence of the president, they turned to greet her and acknowledge her work.
